Frequently asked questions

How Tech Skilll works — events, hackathons, badges and more.

Getting started

What is Tech Skilll?
Tech Skilll is a platform to create events, run multi-round hackathons, and host bootcamps and coding sprints. Anyone can discover and join events; anyone can create and host their own.
Is Tech Skilll free?
Yes. Creating events, hosting hackathons and joining as a participant are all free. Paid ticketing is disabled platform-wide right now, so every event is free to join.
How do I sign in?
Sign-in is passwordless. Enter your email and we send a one-time magic link — click it to log in. There is no password to remember.
Can I change my username?
Your username is permanent once set, because it becomes your public profile URL (techskilll.com/u/your-name). Contact support if you need a correction; admins can reassign handles.

Events & hackathons

What's the difference between an event and a hackathon?
An event is a single session — a talk, workshop, meetup or bootcamp. A hackathon is a multi-round competition with team formation, submissions per round, judging and advancement. Hackathons unlock teams, rounds, mentors, judges and prizes.
How do I create or host an event?
Go to techskilll.com/create, fill in the title, date, description, cover image and category, then publish. Your event then appears in Discover (unless you mark it private). Hackathon creation is currently admin-assisted.
How do I register for an event?
Open the event page and click Register. Some events require organizer approval — you'll show as Pending until the organizer approves you.
Can an event be private?
Yes. Private events don't appear in Discover or search; they're only reachable by direct link, so you control who sees them.
How do teams work in a hackathon?
If the organizer enabled teams, you create a team or join one with an invite code. Team size limits (min/max) are set by the organizer. Solo participation is supported when teams are off.
How do submissions and rounds work?
Each round has a submission deadline. You submit your work (links/files) before the deadline; organizers then advance the top entries to the next round. You can track progress on the event page.
How are entries judged?
Organizers assign evaluators and judges who score each submission against the round's criteria. Top-scoring teams advance; the rest are eliminated for that round.
What are the mentor and judge portals?
Mentors and judges added by an organizer get a no-login portal via an emailed link, scoped to that one event — so they can give feedback or score without creating a full account.

Profiles & badges

What is a public profile?
Every user has a public profile at techskilll.com/u/username showing their name, bio, social links, how many events they've hosted and joined, and their badges.
What are badges?
Badges are small achievements shown on your public profile. Most are earned automatically from your activity; a few are granted by the Tech Skilll team for special recognition.
How do I earn badges?
Activity badges are automatic: Host (organize 1 event) and Super Host (5+); Competitor (join 1 event) and Regular (5+); Hackathon-goer (join a hackathon); Finalist (advance to a hackathon's final round); Mentor and Judge (serve in those roles); Early adopter (join early). They update on their own as you participate.
What does each badge mean?
Host / Super Host — you organize events. Competitor / Regular — you take part in events. Hackathon-goer — you've joined a hackathon. Finalist — you reached a hackathon's final round. Mentor / Judge — you mentored or judged. Early adopter — you joined Tech Skilll early. Verified, Speaker, Community Star, Partner and Staff are awarded by the team.
How do I get the Verified badge?
Verified, Speaker, Community Star, Partner and Staff are granted manually by the Tech Skilll team — they can't be earned automatically. Reach out if you think you qualify.

Organizers

What analytics do organizers get?
Each event has an Analytics tab showing a registration-to-submission funnel with drop-off percentages, a registrations-over-time chart, capacity, and per-round submitted/advanced counts. You can export the report as an Excel (XLSX) or PDF file.

Trust & safety

Are uploaded images moderated?
Yes. Event banners and profile photos are automatically scanned for unsafe content (nudity, violence, hate, illicit material) before they're stored, and rejected if flagged.
How is my data handled?
We only show public-safe fields on profiles — never your email. See the Privacy page for how your data is stored and used.
